PRESS RELEASE New Secretary for BSSC The British Shooting Sports Council [BSSC] has announced that David Penn, lately Keeper of Exhibits and Firearms at the Imperial War Museum and a former Chairman of the Firearms Consultative Committee, has been appointed as the next Secretary to the Council. Commenting on the appointment Lord Shrewsbury [BSSC Chairman] said "We interviewed a number of very well qualified candidates for what, in political terms, is one of the most important roles in the shooting world and David emerged as the most suitable candidate. I have every confidence that, with his expert knowledge and experience at the highest levels, the work of the Council will be in safe hands." David is a member of a number of academic and historical associations and, as well as a deserved reputation in the United Kingdom, he is well respected internationally. He will work alongside the current Secretary, Pat Johnson, until the latter's retirement at the end of March. Speaking of his successor Pat Johnson said "It would be difficult to envisage a more suitable individual to take on this role. I have worked with David throughout my sixteen years as Secretary and, whilst our styles are different, our objectives have always been the same - to do our best to represent shooting in the face of so many who, failing to recognise its merits, offer opposition based on prejudice and lack of knowledge. I wish him well for the future." Apologies if you receive more than one copy of this message. Patrick W Johnson Secretary British Shooting Sports Council PO Box 11 Bexhill-on-Sea England TN40 1AH
