John Leighton-Dyson the Pistol Coach has provided an incentive for the English shooters to win medals. He has promised to shave off his beard in stages, but with a reprieve if using the medal winner's pistol (or rifle) and firing a single shot scores a 10.

 

On the first match day Mick Gault and Nick Baxter took the gold in Free Pistol and Chris Hector and Nigel Wallace took the gold in the air rifle event. JLD didn't manage a 10 so part of the beard went When Mick and Nick took the gold in the Air Pistol pairs JLD managed a reprieve by shooting a ten. Mick won the individual gold for free pistol, so the progress to date:-

GOLDEN GAULT SLAYS INDIAN

England's Michael Gault won his fourth Gold of the Games today in Langkawi, holding off a strong double challenge from Jaspal Rana (India) and Greg Yelovitch (New Zealand) who both tied for Silver. Yelovitch had to settle for Bronze after losing the sudden death shoot-off against Rana.

Mick Gault is England's most successful athlete at the 1998 Commonwealth Games, if not the most successful athlete competing from any country, with his personal tally of 4 gold medals and winning every match he participated in.
