Proposed 25m/10m Rapid Fire Air Match Rules

At the Commonwealth Games in Malaysia the Rapid Fire shooters from the UK discussed the necessity of holding domestic Rapid Fire matches that would keep Rapid Fire shooting alive and prepare them for live Rapid Fire matches abroad. It was felt that the Provisional ISSF 10m Air Rapid Fire event was purposely not imitating the cartridge event and therefore was not suitable for training. Also just shooting the 25m Rapid Fire event with standard 5 shot air pistols was again poor training because of the lack or correlation with the real event, therefore the following Rules are suggested for adoption by the BPC and could be shot at either 25 or 10m as ranges are available.

Rules as per ISSF for Rapid Fire Pistol with the following exceptions:

Pistols: standard 5 shot air pistols but with the following variations permitted.

1. Backbar grip permitted with pistol width limited to 60mm*.

2. Free trigger weight but pistol must be safe in use.

Timings increased for 25m ranges only by 0.2sec to allow for slower pellet velocities.

Targets: 25m PL17 and NSRA scale 10m targets

Width limit proposed is generous compared with the cartridge event because of the unknown practical problems which may be encountered, but "Free Pistol" type grips would not be permitted.
