Bow Street Runner

Firearm Any suitable and safe muzzle-loading revolver. Targets - 2 x PL 17

Position/Grip Free standing unsupported - two-handed grip may be used

Practice 1 12 shots in 12 mins (to include reloading after 6th shot) - 25 meters

Practice 2 12 shots in 2 strings of 6. One shot per 2 sec exp. - 15 meters

Practice 3 6 shots - two per 4 sec exposures - 10 meters

NO ALLOWANCE TO BE MADE FOR MALFUNCTIONS

Ready position - With revolver loaded and capped held at an angle of 45° pointing towards the ground. The revolver may be cocked or uncocked at the shooter’s preference.

Range Commands - At the command LOAD the shooter loads and caps the revolver. On the command "ARE YOU READY?" THE SHOOTER ADOPTS THE READY POSITION. If no response within 3 seconds, the R.O turns the targets to edge to start the series. After 5 seconds the targets face for the required time and continue for the set number of exposures. If "NOT READY" is called by a shooter the R.O. waits about 15 seconds and then calls "ATTENTION" and at the same time edges the targets to start the series as above. When the series is completed the R.O. gives the order to UNLOAD and all revolvers are checked by the Range Staff. Any rounds left in the chambers to be discharged into the bank under the supervision of the R.O. or otherwise safely cleared.

In practice 2 above, sufficient time must be given between the two series for the shooter to safely and correctly reload the revolver. Loading and reloading for series 2 and 3 may be done at the benches at 25m after the R.O’s command but capping MUST only be done at the appropriate distance after the R.O. has given the specific order to cap.
